What IT workers earn in Uzbekistan

There are two honest answers to this and they differ by almost half. The median salary quoted in programmer vacancies is about 10.1 million som a month (Jan–Jul 2026), and the figure that appears most often in listings is 8 million. The official average for the IT & communications sector is about 17.41 million (H1 2026).

There is no contradiction. The sector figure is an arithmetic mean across the entire industry: it covers not just software development but telecoms with its large operators, and any mean is pulled upward by a small number of very high salaries. A median works differently — it is the midpoint of the actual listings, and neither top-end offers nor telecoms skew it. So the sector average answers "how rich is this industry", while the median answers "what will I personally be offered". For planning your own salary, use the second.

One clarification about the word "IT worker": the sector statistics count everyone working in IT — testers, analysts, interface designers, DevOps, support. These roles pay differently, and development is not always the best-paid among them.

What developers are paid

Official statistics put the IT & communications sector at about 17.41 million som per month on average (H1 2026) — roughly 2.4× the national average of 7.09 million. The information-services subsector is even higher, at about 21.41 million.

The spread by experience is wide. Entry-level developers typically start far below the sector average; a few years of commercial experience move you into the low tens of millions; strong seniors, team leads and niche specialists (mobile, DevOps, data) in Tashkent are commonly offered 20–30 million som and up. Companies working with foreign clients or IT Park residents sometimes peg pay to the dollar.

What moves a developer’s salary

The biggest factors behind two very different offers for the same title:

• commercial experience and a portfolio of shipped projects
• stack demand — mobile, backend and data roles usually out-pay generalist web work
• English — teams working with foreign clients pay a visible premium
• company type — product companies and IT Park residents tend to pay above local agencies

What the first job pays

There is no separate official figure for juniors in Uzbekistan, and the numbers in vacancy round-ups built on the keyword "junior" are not worth trusting: the samples are tiny, and the word often appears in a listing alongside requirements aimed at a far more experienced hire. A sounder guide is the lower part of the same distribution — the most common programmer offer is 8 million som, and a first job usually lands below that.

The step change comes from first commercial experience rather than from courses: what separates a beginner's range from a mid-level one is projects that actually shipped. An internship, or a modest first offer on a team that does code review, almost always wins over holding out for the "right" salary immediately.
